We’re nearly halfway through October, which means there are only a couple of weeks to go until Halloween. Which means that from now until then I’ll be posting pictures of creepy treats straight from my kitchen!
If I’m honest, I’m not a massive fan of Halloween. I didn’t celebrate it when I was a kid in the UK, and it’s not an ‘official’ celebration in the country I live in now. However, it’s an excellent excuse to make themed cookies and cake pops – and you know I’m a sucker for anything pretty that’s full of sugar!
This delightful little orange creation was something I made last year. It’s basically a giant cake pop covered in sugar paste – needless to say my kids loved it!
I took chocolate cake and crumbled it, mixed it with some strawberry jam and shaped it into an approximate pumpkin (around about 10 cm in diameter). I used one of my cake decorating tools to make the grooves around the sides, then let it sit in the fridge for a while. After that, I covered it in orange sugar paste and decorated it with some leaves I made with green sugar paste and my leaf spring cutter.
I thought it was pretty cute (and tasty). Perfect for those times you fancy a little something sweet after a meal, but you haven’t got room for proper dessert!
